During my time at Deadline, I worked on the news desk. I researched stories, interviewed MSPs, police officials, council members and attended various hearings. I also wrote articles which were sent to the national papers. As a result, I was published in the Scottish Mail, The Sun, Daily Record and Edinburgh Evening News.

Roles and Responsibilities: Staff Writer – Interviewing and writing a variety of news stories in the Edinburgh area for a large readership of students across Scotland.

 

Citybeat Belfast

June 2011 & Dec 2011

 

During my time as a Broadcast Journalist at Citybeat, I carried out a large number of interviews with government ministers, politicians, community support workers and activists, medical professionals, human rights commissioners, the prisoner ombudsman and clergy men. I wrote news for the website and for hourly radio bulletins. I also edited interviews and selected clips to be broadcast. Alongside this, I researched stories coming up later in the week using websites and embargoed press releases.

 

On a daily basis I would monitor a range of rival news outlets such as the BBC, Downtown Radio and U105, along with TV news output and social networking sites. I received voice training each day through reading actual news bulletins and receiving feedback from the news editor or other reporters. Furthermore, I was trained writing to the style used by the station.

A school magazine which I contributed to. I conducted interviews with pupils and teachers and contributed several articles. Articles can be found in my portfolio.

Feb 2007

 

During my time here I shadowed various reporters on a wide range of topics including news, features and sport. I also observed the live news from the gallery and spent time in the radio studios.

Roles and Responsibilities: Cashier/Griller – Greeting customers, taking orders, waiting tables, handling money. Also worked in the kitchen making food and ensuring quality control was implemented.
